Christmas church services in Sydney: finding a Chinese-language service
11 October 2026

For many people, Christmas is their first visit to a church. In Sydney it's summer, and churches usually hold Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. How to find a Mandarin or Cantonese Christmas service near you.
For many people, Christmas is their first visit to a church. If you've never been, it's a natural place to start.
What is Christmas about?
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians believe God loved the world and sent his Son to be our Saviour, so a Christmas service is about that good news, not just the holiday.
Christmas in Sydney
It's summer here. In December many churches hold:
- Carols: relaxed singing, great for families and first-timers
- Christmas Eve services (24 December, evening)
- Christmas Day services (25 December, morning)
Arrangements vary. Some Chinese congregations hold their own Mandarin or Cantonese service; others join the English service with translation.
Finding a Chinese Christmas service near you
- Find nearby churches by area or by language (Mandarin, Cantonese)
- Before December, check the church page or website for Christmas times
- Not sure? Contact the church, or contact us
Services are busy at Christmas, so arrive early and check parking.
First time?
- Casual, neat summer clothes are fine
- Bring friends and family
- Expect carols, Bible readings and a short talk, about an hour
- Communion is for Christians; visitors can stay seated

After Christmas
If Christmas leaves you wanting to know more, you're welcome back on Sundays in the new year, or to join a course for enquirers or a Bible study group.
