Not confident in English? Sydney Anglican churches with Chinese translation

No Chinese congregation nearby, or want to worship with English-speaking family? A number of Sydney Anglican churches offer Mandarin interpreting or live AI translation in English services.

Not every area has a Chinese congregation. In some families the children speak English and the parents Chinese, and they want to worship together. A number of English services in Sydney now offer Chinese translation.

How translation works

1. Live Mandarin interpreting. A volunteer interprets the sermon as it happens.

2. Live AI translation on your phone. Some churches use QR-code AI interpreting tools such as Sunflower: scan the code and read Chinese captions or listen to a translation.

3. Printed sermon translation. Some churches prepare a translated handout.

Which churches? (examples)

  • St Andrew's Cathedral, CBD: Sunday 10:30am English service with AI live translation and printed sermon translation; the QR-code interpreting also covers Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Japanese and Spanish
  • St Barnabas Broadway, Ultimo: Sunday 10:00am and 5:30pm English services with Mandarin interpreting
  • Blacktown Anglican: Sunday 10:00am English service with Mandarin translation
  • Others, including Roseville East, Chester Hill and Grove Church: see the full Chinese translation list

Check each church page for current details, or contact the church before you go.

Before you go

  • Charge your phone and bring earphones
  • Arrive 10 minutes early and ask a welcomer to help you set up
  • Questions afterwards? Ask the minister; some churches also have Chinese small groups
